Alabaster Ushabti for Iyr

 

The mummiform figure is depicted with his hands at his chest,
holding flails and a seed sack hanging at his back,
traces of red and green pigment preserved throughout,
a vertical line and four horizontal lines of hieroglyphs in black pigment reading:

Illuminate the Osiris Iyr! "O you shabti! [If one is assigned to do] any work in the necropolis   - to culti[vate fields], to irrigate riverbanks, or to transport sand of the West [to the East...]".

Size: 16,8 cm

Period: New Kingdom, 19th - 20th Dynasty 1370 - 1070 B.C.

Material: Alabaster

Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Mr. J.M., former French Egyptologist. Given as a gift for his extensive work in Egypt during the 1940s.
